Failure to correct erroneous ideas with fact-based information is not only sad, it’s dangerous. Currently, our rapidly growing human population coupled with our consumption patterns (including our consumption of animal foods) is wrecking havoc on our planet — with deforestation, loss of biodiversity, greenhouse gas emissions, and many other converging environmental problems. Yet these issues are largely unknown, grossly under-reported, and sometimes willfully ignored. Further, most people continue to think we need to consume animal products for our health, and many have no idea about the environmental pressures that our growing population is placing on the environment. What will it take for us to acknowledge the facts, take personal responsibility and make changes? And, will we do it in time? It is not looking very optimistic at the moment, but we must all do our best to raise awareness about these issues.. |
