Ocean oxygen levels drop 2% in 50 years

Ocean Oxygen Dropping | Meat Your Future

The journal Nature recently published a disturbing report that oceanic oxygen levels have dropped by 2% in the last 50 years (with further and accelerating losses predicted by 2100).

While 2% might not sound like much, it is a significant change for marine ecosystems, and is expected to have far-reaching negative consequences.

Although there are several converging issues involved, the primary driver thought to be responsible is climate change.

There is no question that we humans have the capacity to completely transform — and possibly ruin — the very environment that supports us.

Because animal agriculture is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions that the entire transportation sector worldwide (in addition to its numerous other devastating environmental impacts), it will be unlikely (if not impossible) to timely and adequately address this problem without urgent action that includes a mass, global shift away from animal foods.
