Happy birthday to Dr. Sylvia Earle, who turns 83 today (August 30)!

This remarkable woman’s tireless efforts to help the oceans and raise awareness about the plight of the marine wildlife are truly admirable.

It’s also heartening to see that, long-ago, she made the mindful decision to stop eating the very animals she was trying to protect.

She is very vocal about how we should not be eating fish, and how we are depleting fish and marine life at an alarming and unprecedented rate.

We humans have no nutritional need to eat fish, or any other animal foods. We need an urgent and mass global shift away from eating animal foods (including “seafood”) and towards plant-based eating, if we are to have any hope of timely and adequately addressing the converging environmental challenges now facing us.

If you’re not doing so already, please familiarize yourself with these issues and leave animal foods off your plate forever — for your own health, for the animals, and for the planet (including the oceans).
